Foundation Trust membership formWe’ve changed the way that you can sign up as a member online, making it easier and quicker. The  membership form is available on the right hand side of this web page.  Just fill in the form and press submit.  You will then be signed up as a member of the Trust - it’s that simple!

If you have already signed up as a member, why not email the link to a friend, family member or co-worker - remember we need to sign up as many people as possible to help keep local services in the hands of local people.

Membership Update

September 23rd, 2008

We have set ourselves a target of recruiting 5,500 people to become members of our Foundation Trust by the time we reach Foundation Trust status in Spring 2010.  We are delighted that we have already achieved this target.

This means we can start to communicate with our members about developments.  Members will also be given the opportunity to apply for one of the Governor positions on our Council of Governors.  If they choose not to apply, they can vote in the elections to make sure that the best person is elected to represent member opinions at Council of Governor meetings.  Further details about how to apply to become a Governor and the elections will be available in the Autumn of this year.

Many people with learning disabilities and mental health problems face stigma in our society and find it difficult to talk about the problems.  Research shows that 1 in 4 people will be affected by a mental health problem, such as depression or long term memory issues, at some point in their lives.  One of the main priorities for us as a Trust is to break down this stigma. We want our members to help us do that, so we will be sending out information about the work that we do, and how people in the community can help.

As always, if you have any comments, please email ft@bdct.co.uk or ring (01274) 363552. If you would like to sign up as a member, then visit our online membership form.

Consultation Meetings

May 8th, 2008

We have been consulting with local people about our plans to become a Foundation Trust in Spring 2010.

The consultation exercise began in October 2007 and finished at the end of February 2009.  During this period, 127 consultation events took place, reaching in excess of 1050 people.

Over 500 comments were made in response to the consultation from Members of the Public, Stakeholder organisations, proposed Non-Elected Governor organisations and members of staff.  These comments were analysed and presented to the Board of Directors who were asked to reconsider a number of proposals.

The outcome of the consultation can be viewed by following the link below:

We’ve done it!

The Trust has exceeded its target of 5500 signed up as members. We are busy analysing the members that we now have, to make sure that they are representative of the population we serve.
